A critic described her voice as 'someone suffering from a low, nervous backache.'
She was injured in a taxicab accident, and it effected her vocal range (1943).
She had a huge ego.
She referred to audience members who booed her as hooligans.
Her pitch was horrendous.

Why she might not be annoying:

She paid for her own voice lessons. Even her family was unwilling to advance her the funds.
She didn't give up and continued her dream of being an opera singer.
She is a favorite among cult collectors of bad music.
