Monarch

The Resume

    (December 24, 1167-October 18, 1216)
    Born at Beaumont Palace, Oxford
King of England (Plantagenet Line-1199 to 1216)
    Also known as John Lackland
Son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitane
Brother of King Richard I Coeur de Lion (The Lion-Hearted)
    Ruled England in Richard's absence
Conspired with Philip II of France against Richard
Magna Carta was signed during his rule
    Died at Newark Castle, Nottinghamshire
    Buried at Worcester Cathedral

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname 'John Lackland' was given to him because he was the fourth son; thus, he inherited no property and therefore 'lacked land.'
He was a conniver who plotted against his brother Richard while he was off on crusades.
His rule was sullied by constant family conflicts.
He came into conflict with the Church and got England placed under an interdict.
Two years later, John himself was excommunicated (at that time, the absolute worst thing that could happen to anybody).
He was hated by both his commoners and his nobles.
He tried unsuccessfully to rule Ireland.
He had his nephew, Arthur of Brittany, murdered.
He was an inept ruler; the Magna Carta being signed under his reign was essentially a slap in the face by his nobles.
He will forever be remembered as the evil Prince John from Robin Hood, even though Robin Hood probably lived at the time of Edward II.

Why he might not be annoying:

The Magna Carta, signed under his rule, was the forerunner of the modern constitution.
Most people in the U.S. named Womack or descended from the Womack family are descended from King John, including singer Lee Ann Womack and actor James Garner.
The Crucial Points of the Magna Carta:
    1. The Church is free to make its own appointments
    2. Larger-than-normal amounts of money can only be collected with the consent of the King's feudal tenants
    3. No freeman is to be punished except with in the context of common law.
