The Resume

    (September 2, 1936-December 13, 2021)
    Born in Simmesport, Louisiana
Recorded the singles 'A Teenager's Prayer' (1966), 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' (1968), 'The Chokin' Kind' (1969), 'Farther On Down The Road' (1970), 'Your Turn To Cry' (1970), 'Drowning in the Sea of Love' (1971), 'Power of Love' (1972), 'Step By Step' (1973), 'Theme from Cleopatra Jones' (1973) and 'Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor)' (1975)

Why he might be annoying:

In a 1980 poll, his 'Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor)' and KC and the Sunshine Band's 'Shake, Shake, Shake (Shake Your Booty)' tied for most inane song title of the disco era.
After he became a minister and gospel singer, he dismissed his secular career as 'cow dung.'
He complained that rappers were undermining his ministry by sampling his records.

Why he might not be annoying:

He sang at Otis Redding's funeral and was one of the pallbearers.
He had three singles hit #1 on the R&B chart and three singles that went gold with over a million in sales.
He is apparently sincere about his conversion to gospel, once rejecting an offer of $20,000 a night to perform his soul hits.
