    His wife Norma Talmadge addressed him as ‘Daddy.’
    He dismissed talking pictures as a fad.
    He was sentenced to a year in jail for tax evasion and union payoffs (1946).
    He was pardoned by President Truman after serving only four months.
    Louis B. Mayer called him ‘Joe Skunk.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was possibly the most powerful Hollywood executive of all time.
    He helped make Buster Keaton a star.
    His brother Nicholas also became a mogul, at rival studio MGM.
    He may have been pressured by organized crime into paying off the studio union.
    He was the mentor (and possible lover) of Marilyn Monroe.
