Why he might be annoying:

He split from his band at the height of its success.
He lost the demo tapes for his solo project, claiming he last saw them on the studio amplifier (which is a bad place to put a tape, since the magnetic forces can erase anything that's on it).
He fell off the stage during his performance at the Birmingham Academy in England and broke two of his ribs (2000).
At Lollapalooza, he was hospitalized after suffering from severe dehydration (1994).

Why he might not be annoying:

The Verve reached commercial fame by releasing 'Bittersweet Symphony,' which was structured around a Rolling Stones sample. They don't own the song and never made money off of it, but they made a name for themselves in the United States and other markets.
He performed at the Teenage Cancer Trust Benefit (2003).
