    He was arrested for shoplifting (1981).
    He lied about his age to join Depeche Mode, since the band had been looking for someone under 21.
    He left Depeche Mode complaining that his contributions 'never received the respect and acknowledgement' they deserved.
    After leaving Depeche Mode, he turned down an offer to join the Cure.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a studio musician before joining Depeche Mode, including playing keyboards of the Korgis' top 20 British hit 'If I Had You.' (1979)
    He produced albums by Nitzer Ebb; in turn, Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy provided vocals on several Recoil songs.
    He is a fan of Talk Talk singer Mark Hollis and produced a Talk Talk tribute album.
    He had a narrow escape when an RAF plane crashed into a hillside near where he was driving: 'I would surely have been killed or, worse, severely maimed, had I been ten seconds further into my journey.' (1994)
