The Resume

    (October 22, 1882-June 12, 1959)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Birth name was Frederick Albert Mitchell-Hedges
    Frequently travelled in Central America
Wrote 'Battles with Giant Fish' 'Danger: My Ally,' and 'Land of Wonder and Fear'
Allegedly found the Mitchell-Hedges crystal skull in the ruins of the Mayan city Lubaantun in Belize (1924)

Why he might be annoying:

He boasted about discovering 'lost cities' that archeologists had long known about.
He claimed that the Bay Islands of Honduras were remnants of Atlantis.
Archeologist J. Eric S. Thompson said about 'Land of Wonder and Fear,' 'To me, the only wonder was how he could write such nonsense and the fear how much taller the next yarn would be.'
In a letter to his brother, he admitted that he had bought the crystal skull in an auction at Sotheby's in 1943.
Analysis showed that the skull was carved using modern tools unavailable to the Mayans.
Without the crystal skull, the world might have been spared from the fourth Indiana Jones movie.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He adopted a Canadian orphan.
He was captured by Pancho Villa's troops during a trip to Mexico, and escaped execution by singing 'God Save the King' to prove he was British and not American.
He had a popular Sunday evening radio show in New York City recounting his adventures.
His crystal skull looks cool and was the logo for 'Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World.'
