Why Portsmouth, Ohio might be annoying:

    It was named after Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
    The locals call it ‘P-Town.’
    It had some of the strictest anti-black laws during the slavery era.
    Its economy heavily relies on the industrial sector.
    It experienced a significant population drop after World War II as a result of suburbanization and again in the 1980’s, following the collapse of the industrial sector.
    It was established on some extremely hilly terrain.
    It allowed its historical buildings fall into extreme disrepair, to the point where demolition was needed.
    It is prone to flooding, despite the fact it was built on a high terrain.
    It lost its National Football League team, the Portsmouth Spartans to Detroit in 1933.
    It developed a reputation of being a drug ridden cesspool during the 2010’s.

Why Portsmouth, Ohio might not be annoying:

    It is considered the midway point between Cincinnati, Columbus, Charleston, West Virginia and Lexington, Kentucky, as all four cities are within a 90 mile drive from here.
    It is home to Shawnee State University.
    Its establishment on higher terrain prompted the settlers in neighboring Alexandria to leave the flood prone area to come here.
    Despite being notorious for its activities in the slave movement, a handful of residents against it were credited with helping improve conditions for black people in the community.
    It was considered a major hub along the Underground Railroad during the antebellum era.
    It was considered an integral city for industrial activity along the Ohio River during the early 20th century.
    It is considered a major stopping point during the American presidential campaigns.
    It was able to successfully revitalize its economy at the turn of the 21st century.
    It was named Hallmarks' Hometown Christmas Town (2019).
