    Birth name was Henri Rene Albert Guy de Maupassant
    Wrote the novels 'Une Vie' (1883), 'Bel-Ami' (1885) and 'Pierre et Jean' (1888)
    Published the short-story collections 'La Maisson Tellier' (1881), 'Mademoiselle Fifi' (1882), 'Clair de Lune' (1884), 'Contes Du Jour Et De La Nuit' (1885) and 'La Horla' (1887)

Why he might be annoying:

    He deliberately got himself expelled from a seminary.
    He took a bookkeeper with him to a brothel to prove his claim he could make love to six women in an hour.
    He went mad from syphilis.
    He was committed to an asylum after slashing his throat.
    During his final months, he would howl like a dog, lick the walls of his cell and hoard his urine in jars.

    He served in the Franco-Prussian War.
    His favorite recreation was canoing on the Seine.
