He got his break in the NFL through nepotism, as he served on his older brother's coaching staff in Tampa.
Despite his success in the Arena and World Football Leagues, he failed to crack a roster spot in the Canadian Football League.
He came out of retirement six years after entering the coaching ranks.
He had a strained relationship with Robert Griffin III, during his first season with the Redskins.
During his stint with the Bucs, he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (September 16, 2005).

He was a member of six championship teams in the Arena Football League.
He earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Buccaneers coaching staff (2002).
He guided the Redskins to their first NFC East title in three years (2015).
He was instrumental in the development of Kirk Cousins as the Redskins starting quarterback.
He handled a difficult situation in Washington with class, as he works for one of the NFL's stingiest owners in Daniel Snyder.
