The Resume

    (February 19, 1913-May 5, 1972)
    Born in Weehawken, New Jersey
Birth name was Francis Frederick von Taschlein
Worked as an animator at Terrytoons, Warner Brothers, Disney and Screen Gems
Animated shorts included ‘The Fox and the Grapes,’ ‘Porky Pig’s Feat,’ ‘Nasty Quacks,’ ‘Hare Remover,’ ‘The Unruly Hare’ and a series of ‘Private Snafu’ WWII educational films
Directed the films ‘Son of Paleface’ (1952), ‘Artists and Models’ (1955), ‘The Girl Can’t Help It’ (1956), ‘Hollywood or Bust’ (1956), ‘Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?’ (1957), ‘The Geisha Boy’ (1958), ‘Cinderfella’ (1960), ‘Who’s Minding the Store?’ (1963), ‘The Disorderly Orderly’ (1963), The Alphabet Murders’ (1965) and ‘The Private Navy of Sgt. O’Farrell’ (1968)
Wrote and illustrated the children’s books ‘The Bear That Wasn’t (1946), ‘The Possum That Didn’t’ (1950) and ‘The World That Isn’t’ (1951)

Why he might be annoying:

He was married three times, divorced twice.
As an animator, he bounced from studio to studio, either pissing off the boss enough to get fired or getting pissed off enough at the boss to quit.
He said that while working at Disney, one of his favorite practical jokes was to wait until Clarence ‘Ducky’ Nash fell asleep in his office, then drop him – still sleeping in a wicker chair – out a window.
He so disliked Chuck Jones’ animated version of ‘The Bear That Wasn’t’ that he never spoke to Jones again.
His biography on the Looney Toons Wiki misidentified a picture of fellow animator Bob McKimson as him. (An error since corrected.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the few directors to successfully make the transition from animation to live-action.
Considering that he worked at a time when Hollywood’s Production Code was in full effect, it is impressive how much ribald humor he managed to slip into his films.
He simultaneously celebrated and satirized pop culture.
One critic noted, ‘Not even Jerry Lewis knew better than Tashlin how to direct Jerry Lewis.’
When his films were praised in the French journal ‘Cahiers du Cinema,’ he dismissed it as ‘all this philosophical double talk.’
Fans of his work include directors Jean-Luc Godard and John Waters and animator John Kricfalusi.
