This was prevalent when he played a Greek-Canadian character on 'The Beachcombers.'

He appeared in TV commercials for McCain frozen pizza products in the 1980's.
Due to his work on 'Celebrity Cooks,' he also served as a pitchman for microwaves.
His other works outside of 'The Beachcombers' aren't well known to movie fans.
A Canadian garage band named themselves Bruno Gerussi's Medallion.

He was a first generation Canadian born to Italian parents.
He looked like a cross between Charles Bronson and Vic Tayback.
He attended the prestigious Banff School of Fine Arts on a scholarship.
He participated in the Stratford Festival, which became the springboard for his acting career.
He hosted the first Genie Awards celebration (1980).
He enjoyed wood carving in his spare time.
He remains a Canadian icon, long after his run on 'The Beachcombers' ended.
He died from a heart attack five years after 'The Beachcombers' ended their run.
