'Falling Down' is accused of containing racist messages.
'Batman and Robin' is one of the most despised comic book movies ever.

On the 'Phone Booth' commentary, he says: 'I've taken a lot of shit over the years and I say fuck 'em if they don't get it.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He acknowledges 'Batman and Robin's' flaws and says he owes the fans a better movie.
He is acclaimed for his ability to create dark, gothic atmospheres.
Even his biggest detractors acknowledge the quality of his earlier films.
When 'Phantom of the Opera' fans decried his decision not to include Michael Crawford in the project, he replied: 'Well, I guess they'd better stay home then.'
