He lucked into winning 'Murder in Small Town X' when he and the other remaining contestant both chose the wrong suspect.
Angel lost the contest determining who would get to keep their choice and was forced to pick the other suspect, which turned out to be the correct choice.

Why he might not be annoying:

He died on the job, helping to save the lives of others.
He provided a familiar name and face among the many firefighters who lost their lives in the World Trade Center.
He was well-liked by the other 'Murder in Small Town X' contestants, some of whom got tattoos to honor his memory.
