Playwright
    (March 20, 1828-May 23, 1906)
Wrote 'Catilina (1850),' 'Love's Comedy (1862),' 'The Pretenders (1863),' 'Brand (1866),' 'Peer Gynt (1867),' 'Pillars Of Society (1877),' 'A Doll's House (1879),' 'The Wild Duck (1884),' 'The Lady Of The Sea (1888)' and 'Hedda Gabler (1890)'
    He suffered from depression.
    Many of his plays moralized.
He deserted his bankrupt parents to escape their disgrace.
He was obsessed with the idea of the romantic rebel with a destructive mistress.
He wrote many of his finest works after he left Norway.
He wrote 'Peer Gynt,' for which Edvard Grieg wrote a famous score.
His plays didn't always end 'happily ever after.'
He was hated by the critics, but he rejuvenated 19th Century theatre.
