    His nickname is Benny.
    He angered Bostonians by openly stating he was cheering for the St. Louis Blues over the Bruins in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final, which was a cardinal sin, due to the fact he played for the Red Sox.
    He refused to sign a contract with his hometown Cincinnati Reds upon being drafted by the team in 2013.
    He was ejected from a game after he made inflammatory remarks in regards to a Latino umpire.
    He went from being one of the cornerstones of the Red Sox outfield to being expendable following the 2018 World Series championship.

    He grew up in Cincinnati as a Reds fan.
    He won both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy during his senior year at the University of Arkansas.
    He was recalled from Double A to the Red Sox in his first professional season out of college.
