Why she might be annoying:

Since 1974, there has been a rumor going around that she is responsible for a proposal that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ban all religious broadcasting on TV.
This has long since been debunked as an urban legend, but still shows up in e-mails.
She tried to force her beliefs (or lack thereof) on everyone else.
Life magazine called her 'the most hated woman in America.'

Why she might not be annoying:

Although she originally had nothing to do with the petition, it has gone on to become one of the most popular Urban Legends.
Ironically, O'Hair's son William announced his conversion to Christianity on Mother's Day in 1980 and became an outspoken evangelist for his new faith.
She stood behind her beliefs (or lack thereof).
