Figure Skater

The Resume

    (June 13, 1993-July 19, 2018)
    Born in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Great-great-grandson of Min Geung-ho, a Korean general fighting for Korea's independence against Japan
Participated in the 2002 World Choir Games, where his team won silver
Gold medalist at 2011 Asian Winter Games, 2015 Four Continents Championships, and 2017 Winter Universiade
Silver medalist at 2013 World Championships
Bronze medalist at 2014 Winter Olympics and 2015 World Championships
Started his own ice show, 'Denis Ten and Friends' (2013)
Graduated from the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism (2014)
Stabbed in the thigh by two carjackers trying to steal his car mirrors and later died from severe blood loss at the Central Clinic Hospital in Almaty

Why he might be annoying:

He didn't yield the right of way to fellow skater Yuzuru Hanyu during a practice session, resulting in the latter yelling at him. (March 31, 2016)
His training for the 2018 Winter Olympics was inconsistent due to feet injuries.
His murder could've been prevented had one of his killers weren't released from prison in Astana and sent to Almaty.
His murder also casts doubts on the effectiveness of local police.
A lawyer claimed that his murder was orchestrated, as evidenced by a video showing a third person running from the scene, making it potential fodder for conspiracy theories.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first skater from Kazakhstan to win a medal at the Olympics, hence his nickname 'the Prince of Kazakhstan' for putting the country on the map.
He and Hanyu quickly patched up after the practice incident.
He was the inspiration behind the Yuri on Ice!! character Otabek Altin.
He was interested in photography and collaborated with other fellow Kazakhstani celebrities in his photos.
His favorite actors were Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson.
The proceeds from his ice show 'Olympic Energy' went to the treatment of a child with neuroleukemia and figure skating's development in Kazakhstan. (August 20, 2014)
