    Paintings include 'Our English Coasts' (1852), 'The Awakening Conscience' (1853), 'The Light of the World' (1854), 'The Scapegoat' (1856), 'The Finding of the Saviour in the Temple' (1860), 'The Shadow of Death' (1871), 'Importunate Neighbour' (1895), 'The Miracle of the Holy Fire' (1899), and 'The Lady of Shallot' (1905)

Why he might be annoying:

    His middle name was changed by a misspelling on his baptismal certificate.
    After his wife Fanny Waugh died in childbirth, he married her sister Edith.
    He claimed 'The Light of the World' was inspired by an encounter with a glowing white ghost.
    The Oxford Companion to Art declared, 'Most of his works are now regarded as failures' (1978)

    His paintings are known for their vivid color and attention to detail.
    He was the only one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood to remain true to its ideals throughout his career.
    He was named to the Order of Merit (1905).
    Reportedly, 80% of Australia's population viewed 'The Light of the World' when the painting was sent on a world tour (1905-07).
    He eventually had to give up painting due to failing eyesight.
