U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (December 12, 1951- )
    Born in Secane, Pennsylvania
Served in the US Navy (1974-2006)
Retired as a two-star rear admiral
    Represented Pennsylvania’s 7th District (2007-11)

Why he might be annoying:

When told he should seek the endorsement of the DCCC before running for Congress, he thought the initials referred to the Delaware County Community College instead of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
He had a reputation as a stern taskmaster, with the turnover rate among his staff being more than twice the Congressional average.
He ticked off the party establishment by running against Republican-turned-Democrat Arlen Specter in the primary election for US Senator (2010).
Apparently feeling that 23 candidates just was not enough, he joined the race for the Democratic nomination for US President (June 22, 2019), entering the contest too late to make the cutoff for the first round of candidate debates.

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from the Naval Academy second in his class.
After 9/11, he was the first director of the Navy Operations Group, the Navy’s strategic anti-terrorism unit.
He commanded an air carrier battle group of 10 ships, 100 aircraft, and 10,000 sailors and marines during combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer named him the most productive freshman member of Congress, with 19 pieces of legislation that he wrote passing in the House (2007).
After narrowly losing to Republican candidate Pat Toomey in the general election for US Senator, he visited each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to thank his supporters (2010).
The Democratic Party establishment got its revenge by financially backing Katie McGinty against him in the 2016 primary election, despite polls showing Sestak consistently doing better McGinty in a race against incumbent Senator Toomey. (McGinty won the nomination, then lost to Toomey.)
His daughter has twice successfully battled against brain cancer.
