Politician

The Resume

    (May 20, 1979- )
    Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Member of Parliament for Regina-Qu’Appelle (northeastern Regina, 2004– )
Second leader of the Conservative Party of Canada (May 27, 2017)
    Pro-Life
Bachelor of Arts at the University of Regina

Why he might be annoying:

He claimed to have been bitten by the political bug at age 10 or 11 — junior high years (‘I was probably on the nerdier end of the spectrum’).
Not without justification, he was pegged as Stephen Harper’s protege / successor.
Like his mentor, he did not hail from the area whose riding he would go on to represent.
He would not be out of place in the socially conservative American Bible Belt.
He believed that appointing (pro-choice!) Henry Morgentaler to such an honor debased the Order of Canada.
    He studied insurance brokering.

Why he might not be annoying:

Unlike Justin Trudeau, who won by a huge margin on the very first ballot against only a few candidates, he battled through 13 ballots to become the leader of his party.
In the 2004 and 2006 federal campaigns, he soundly defeated who was then the longest-serving active Minister of Parliament (the New Democratic Party candidate).
At age 32, he would become the youngest Speaker of the House of Commons in parliamentary history — and the first-ever Saskatchewan representative.
He suspended his leadership campaign temporarily to pay tribute to his mother, who died at age 73 a few weeks before the ultimate ballot.
He made it onto the list of Canadians banned from traveling to Russia under Vladimir Putin’s retaliatory sanctions (2014; hey, if Mad Vlad hates you…).
He is a football fan… specifically, and possibly naturally, the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
