The Resume

    (September 10, 1967-March 12, 1971)
    Born in United States
Western TV series centered around an Arizona ranch family in the late nineteenth century and their battle against Apaches, bandits, and the elements
Starred; Leif Erickson as John Cannon, Cameron Mitchell as Buck Cannon, Linda Cristal as Victoria Montoya Cannon, Henry Darrow as Manulito Montoya and Mark Slade as Billy Blue Cannon
Originated by David Dortort, who created 'Bonanza'

Why The High Chaparral might be annoying:

There were many errors in details throughout the series; the ranch had a windmill (which pumps water) plus an open well, the setting of the ranch (in the desert) would have made cattle ranching impossible, the men wore long johns even in the summer heat, etc.
Linda Cristal never ever sweated. Not even once, not in the kitchen, riding in the sun, not while injured and fighting for her life. Not once.
Except for Linda Cristal's single Golden Globe for Best Actress, it won no major awards.
It's ratings were never better than decent.
It hasn't been as popular in syndication as other westerns such as 'Gunsmoke' or 'The Rifleman,' and as of 2010, has not been released on DVD.
Mark Slade did not return for the final season and his character simply disappeared from the show without explanation, not even appearing in flashback episodes.

Why The High Chaparral might not be annoying:

Unlike most American TV westerns, it usually did not portray Native Americans or Mexicans stereotypically.
It was usually filmed outdoors and not on sound stages like most TV westerns, and the actors often appeared dirty and sweaty as would real life cowboys.
It had an excellent pilot and two part series finale.
It has a superb fan maintained website.
The cast, which got along famously well, was probably the best of all the TV westerns and they were able to for the most part maintain successful careers after the show ended.
