The Resume

    (October 31, 1959- )
    Born in Richfield, Ohio
    Birth name was John Backderf
Drew the comic strip 'The City' (1990-2014)
Wrote and drew the graphic novels 'Punk Rock and Trailer Parks' (2010), 'My Friend Dahmer' (2012), 'Trashed' (2015), and 'Kent State: Four Dead in Ohio' (2020)

Why he might be annoying:

The first cartoon he got paid for was a nude drawing of his sixth-grade teacher that a classmate paid $2 for. ('I assume he used it for masturbatory purposes.')
He got D's in art class in high school. (Mainly because he insisted on drawing cartoons rather than doing the assigned work.)
Growing up, he and some friends encouraged Jeffrey Dahmer to act out, including faking seizures in class and at the local mall.
During a visit to the set of the film adaptation of 'My Friend Dahmer,' he was freaked out by Ross Lynch in costume as Dahmer, eventually telling him, 'You have to take off those glasses or I can't talk to you.'

Why he might not be annoying:

As a reporter for the Akron Beacon Journal, he was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for examining race relations in the city (1995).
He won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Editorial Cartooning for 'The City.' (2006).
'My Friend Dahmer' was named one of the top five non-fiction books of the year by Time magazine.
Fans of his work include R. Crumb, James Ellroy, and Alison Bechdel.
