The Resume

    (February 19, 1876-March 16, 1957)
    Born in Hobita, Romania
    Sculptor
Works include 'The Kiss' (1907), 'Bird in Space' (1923) and 'The Endless Column' (1938)

Why he might be annoying:

He smoked so many cigarettes, he was hospitalized with nicotine poisoning.
He had a child out of wedlock who he never acknowledged.
The phallic shape of his 'Princess X' was so shocking, it was removed from exhibit at the Salon in Paris (1920).
His 'Bird in Space' was so abstract that US Customs refused to recognize it as art and imposed a $600 tax on it as an industrial item (1928).

Why he might not be annoying:

He built his own phonograph and most of his furniture and utensils.
A court eventually ruled that 'Bird in Space' was a work of art and returned the $600.
'Bird in Space' sold at auction for $27.5 million, breaking the record set three years earlier - by another Brancusi sculpture.
He said, 'Don't look for obscure formulas or mysteries in my work. It is pure joy that I offer you.'
