    Born in Leiden, Netherlands
    Trance music producer and DJ
CDs include ‘76,’ ‘Shivers,’ ‘Imagine,’ ‘Mirage,’ ‘Intense,’ and the ‘A State of Trance’ compilation series
Singles include ‘Blue Fear,’ ‘Serenity,’ ‘This World Is Watching Me,’ ‘Going Wrong,’ ‘In and Out of Love,’ ‘Not Giving Up On Love,’ and ‘This Is What It Feels Like’

Host of ‘A State of Trance’ radio series (2001– )

Why he might be annoying:

That ‘Van’ is actually ‘van’ (same search-engine issue as with Corrie ten Boom).
And yes, you read correctly, there are two U’s, as in ‘vacuum.’
In the official biography on his own website: ‘a born perfectionist’ (at least it’s honest).
That and ‘he spent all the money he earned with his paper route on records.’
On electronic dance: ‘There are so many new talents on the horizon. What is happening right now is a thing I like to call ‘diversification’ because you have all these little islands within dance music. It’s not just one sound anymore.’ (It never was.)

Why he might not be annoying:

He has three relatively normal middle names: Joseph Daniel Jacobus.
He divided the official biography on his own website into ‘the DJ,’ ‘the Radio Host,’ ‘the Producer,’ ‘the Label Owner,’ ‘How It All Began,’ and ‘the Award Winner: Facts & Figures.’
Although DJing disrupted his law studies, he made damn sure to complete his degree (2003).
His first year in the DJ Magazine Annual Fan Poll, he came in at 27th (2001). The following year 5th; for the next 12 years, he never finished lower than third.
His second child was born hours before he was to headline the year’s Tomorrowland festival (held every July in Belgium).
