Why he might be annoying:

    When 'The Corrections' was named to Oprah Winfrey's book club in 2001, he expressed discomfort, as he intended that book to be read by men.
    He has said he did not feel like an adult until he was about 50.
    There was some controversy when 'Freedom' came out by female writers who were jealous over the attention male writers got over them.
    Thousands of copies of 'Freedom' had to be recalled in the U.K. due to typesetting errors.
    He has been divorced.

Why he might not be annoying:

    'The Corrections,' which told the story of the troubles of a family over a course of several decades, garnered many honors, including a National Book Award in 2001.
    He eventually made up with Oprah, appearing on her show in 2010.
    With the pictured Time Magazine cover, he became the first living American author to have his picture on the cover since Stephen King a decade earlier. He was also among that magazine's 'People Who Mattered' for 2010.
    He, along with other writers, wrote rules to writing fiction in an edition of The Guardian.
    He overcame a large amount of fears and unpopularity growing up to become a renowned writer.
