Why he might be annoying:

He was twice divorced.
Despite making quite a name for himself, he always seemed to be living in the shadow of his brother Ridley.
He directed thousands of commercials, the majority of which were for his brother's company, Ridley Scott Associates.
He had an affair with Brigitte Nielsen (both were married at the time, Brigette to Sylvester Stallone), and he admitted that this affair is what lead to the divorce from his second wife.

Why he might not be annoying:

His films were known for their rich and inventive visual style.
He took the brave step of following in his brother's footsteps merely years after seeing him direct the hugely successful 'Alien.'
He seemed to make films that are the polar opposite to his brother's nihilistic concepts, opting for a more optimistic outlook.
His films grossed over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
He won an Emmy in 2002 for 'The Gathering Storm.'
