    He turned down a contract offer from Hibernian F.C., due to the fact he would have had to abandon golf altogether.
    He turned down a scholarship offer from the University of Aberdeen in order to focus on his soccer career.

    He successfully won the lawsuit he made against the education authority, after it was revealed they were held liable for not properly checking the structure.
    He was a member of a Liverpool F.C. team that won eight league titles, four League Cups, three European Cups and two FA Cups during his tenure.
    He was a member of the Liverpool team that played in the Hillsborough disaster game (April 15, 1989) and attended the funerals of 12 victims and spent countless hours visiting others in hospital.
    His honest analysis in regards to the teams made him a popular figure amongst soccer fans.
    He was a staunch supporter of the Better Together campaign during the 2014 Scottish Independence referendum.
