TV Series

The Resume

Why Dallas (TV Series) might be annoying:

It is considered to be television’s first prime-time ‘soap opera.’
It was probably one of the most inconsistent TV series ever created.
Bobby Ewing was killed off when Duffy decided to leave the show.
However, when Duffy wanted to return to the show, his return was explained that Bobby’s wife, Pam, dreamt the entire season, meaning his death and the events of that season didn’t happen.
That created conflicts with its spin-off show, ‘Knots Landing,’ which referenced Bobby’s death.
When Hagman thought about leaving the show, the writers were going to have the ambulance J.R. was riding in catch fire. J.R. would have plastic surgery and have a different actor portray him.
While its exterior shots were filmed in the Dallas area, all of its action sequences were shot in California.
There was a very high cast turnover rate.
Hagman and Kercheval were the only actors to stay with the series its entire run.
The family who owned the ranch where Dallas’ exterior shots were filmed was forced to sell it due to all the tourists who visited there 24/7.
J.R. Ewing supposedly committed suicide in the final episode, yet he turned up in a Dallas TV movie five years later.

Why Dallas (TV Series) might not be annoying:

It had one of the most recognizable television theme songs ever.
It was very popular even though none of the characters were likable.
It helped usher in the practice of ending a television season on a cliffhanger.
Its ‘everything was a dream’ idea has been imitated and parodied many times, most notably by ‘St. Elsewhere,’ ‘Newhart’ and ‘Family Guy.’
‘The Simpsons’ parodied the ‘Who Shot J.R.’ episodes, with Mr. Burns being the victim.
Its ‘Who Done It?’ episode, otherwise known as the second ‘Who Shot J.R.,’ is the second highest-rated program ever.
The Southfork Ranch is now a museum dedicated to the show.
