The Resume

    (March 19, 1963- )
Directed 'In the Company of Men (1997),' 'Your Friends and Neighbors (1998),' 'Nurse Betty (2000),' 'Possession (2002)' and 'The Shape of Things (2003)'
Wrote numerous plays including 'Filthy Talk for Troubled Times,' 'The Shape of Things' and 'Bash: A Remembrance of Hatred and Longing'

Why he might be annoying:

His first play featured a lengthy rant about homosexuals and AIDS. During one performance an audience member stood up and yelled 'Kill the playwright!'
LaBute, who was an actor in the play, almost yelled out 'Let's find him and get him… I think I saw him around here somewhere!'
His movies depict characters that are cynical, misogynist, arrogant, cruel, ignorant, and unlikable.
'Your Friends and Neighbors' originally received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA even though there was no violence or nudity.
His play 'Bash: A Remembrance of Hatred and Longing' showed Mormon characters doing bad things. The play confused non-Mormons and irritated some Mormons.
Paul Rudd said: 'The Brits really like Neil LaBute because he tends to write about the ugly side of people and they're all American.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from Brigham Young University, the University of Kansas and New York University.
He received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of London.
His first movie was financed by the insurance money by two friends who were involved car accidents.
He is not afraid to tackle politically correct subjects and people in brutally honest ways.
He is able to work on both mainstream and independent films.
He has been described by interviewers as intelligent, polite, and easygoing.
Regarding his films he said: 'I'm interested in what you think. I raise the questions… Do you want me to rant for 90 minutes about how I feel?'
He often casts college friend Aaron Eckhart.
