The Resume

    (October 10, 2010- )
Fourth generation of animated TV series based on the toy franchise by Hasbro
Produced by DHX Studios in Canada
    Developed by Lauren Faust
Originally broadcast on 'The Hub' cable network

Why My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic might be annoying:

The show attracted a predominantly-male following of nerdy older fans known as 'Bronies'.
The 'Brony' fan phenomenon originated on 4chan.
Some Bronies might be seen by non-fans as obsessive and overbearing.
Also, male fans of the show tend to get bullied and/or have their sexual orientation questioned by non-fans.
The main characters of the show tend to have their own character flaws and personality quirks.
A few of the main characters require a second voice talent for singing the show's musical numbers.
Some of the show's humor might go over the heads of its intended audience (i.e. preteen girls).
The show's network, The Hub, tends to be on many cable and satellite services' 'premium' tiers, forcing some fans to view episodes of the show online.

Why My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic might not be annoying:

The series helps teach about the core moral values of friendship.
The show's art design and writing appeals to a wider audience than its more-girly predecessors of the franchise (which is a factor into the 'Brony' fan following).
Series developer Lauren Faust is the wife of animator Craig McCracken, and previously worked alongside him on other cartoons such as The Powerpuff Girls.
One of the show's more memorable villains is a draconequus named 'Discord', voiced by John de Lancie.
An accidental animation error in the pilot episode produced a recurring fan-favorite character known as 'Derpy Hooves'.
The animators incorporate many easter eggs and in-jokes into the show (including the aforementioned Derpy) as a nod to the fan community.
Most Bronies happen to be a tight-knit online community who promote 'love and tolerance'.
The show draws in some of the highest ratings for The Hub, with its second-season finale generating the network's highest audience to date (as of mid-2012).
Hasbro and the show's producers are more lenient towards fan usage of their intellectual properties than most other studios are, resulting in many fanmade videos and artwork featuring the Ponies.
