Biblical Character

The Resume

    Princess of Egypt
Appears in the Old Testament books of Genesis, Exodus, and Chronicles
    Moses' adoptive mother
Found baby Moses in a basket floating in the Nile river
Saved him from certain death by avoiding the decree to kill all first born Israelite boys

Why she might be annoying:

Her father was guilty of ethnic cleansing and mass infanticide.
She was bathing at the time she found the basket in the river.
She relied on her palace slaves and a Hebrew wet nurse (Moses' biological mom).
She goes unnamed in the Biblical text, frustrating historians.
She goes by a different name in each religion - Bithiah (Judaism), Merris (Christianity) and Asiyah (Islam) - causing great further confusion.
Nowadays, Bible art depicting the river scene tends to make her look like Angelina Jolie.

Why she might not be annoying:

She has been portrayed by Nina Foch ('The Ten Commandments') and Helen Mirren ('Prince of Egypt').
She bypassed the royal decree by allowing Moses to live with Jochebed until he was of age to live in the palace.
Her actions made possible for the Hebrews to be freed from slavery, in addition to their journey to the Promised Land and the establishment of the Ten Commandments.
In her later years, she converted to the Jewish faith, celebrating the first Passover with Moses in the slaves' quarters.
She was the only Egyptian to have her firstborn child be spared during the Ten Plagues of Egypt.
She accompanied Moses, his siblings, and the freed Israelites in when they left Egypt, thereby witnessing the parting of the Red Sea.
In her final years, she married a member of the Tribe of Judah, Mered, and even had children with him.
Without her, there wouldn't have been a Ten Commandments movie and so Charlton Heston would just be known as that guy in the NRA spots.
