Why they might be annoying:

Guy posed with a guitar in early publicity shots even though he did not play.
Many of their hits were novelty songs.
They had no successes without songwriters/producers Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller.
Various ex-Coasters led rival bands on the oldies circuit. (The Original Coasters, The Fabulous Coasters, The World-Famous Coasters, etc.)
The official version of the Coasters (the one with the legal rights to the name) is lead by Gardner's son and features no singers from their hit-making days.

Why they might not be annoying:

Lieber and Stoller wrote, 'Of all the record sessions we ever produced, the ones with the Coasters were the most fun.'
Beneath the humor, their songs often made incisive points about American culture and lampooned racial stereotypes.
Gardner returned to performing less than a year after being treated for throat cancer (1994).
Gunter was shot to death in his car and his murder remains unsolved.
