The Resume

    (1925-2008)
    Born in Liege, Belgium
    Catholic priest
    Author and teacher
Wrote 'The Sources of Christian Ethics,' 'The Pursuit of Happiness: Living the Beatitudes' and 'The Sources of the Ethics of St. Thomas Aquinas'
Earned a doctorate from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas
Helped write the Catechism of the Catholic Church

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote in a dense academic style that is sometimes hard to follow.
Much of his stuff is not available in English.
Though well known in academic circles, he is not well known at all among lay people.

Why he might not be annoying:

He used three primary sources for his work: the Bible, the writings of the Church Fathers and the methodology of St. Thomas Aquinas.
'The Sources of Christian Ethics' has been called the most important work of moral theology in the twentieth century and is a standard textbook in Catholic seminaries.
He spent thirty years as a university professor at The Studium in La Sarte, Belgium and the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
Unlike many clergy in academia, he had extensive pastoral experience.
He opposed dividing the study of morality into different areas, moral theology, historical theology, apologetics, etc., and supported a more interconnected approach.
