Why they might be annoying:

Their name was inspired by Lifebuoy soap.
    They were one-hit wonders.
Their one hit is about three trapped miners, two of whom eat the third.
Scepter Records tried to minimize controversy by claiming that Timothy was really a mule, so it wasn't so bad if he got eaten.

Why they might not be annoying:

'Timothy' was deliberately written to get banned on the theory that there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Holmes came up with the cannibalism theme on the grounds that by 1970 drugs and sex had been done to death.
Despite indeed getting banned by many radio stations, 'Timothy' still became a Top 20 hit and sold over half a million singles.
The song inspired the creation of 'Timothy for Lunch Bunch' groups on several college campuses.
