The Resume

    (July 13, 1947-February 25, 2018)
    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Birth name was Cynthia Glick
Columnist for the SoHo Weekly News, New York Daily News, Village Voice, Vogue, New York magazine and Playboy
Wrote the books ‘Sex Tips for Girls’ (1983), ‘If You Can’t Live Without Me, Why Aren’t You Dead Yet?’ (1991), ‘Get Your Tongue Out of My Mouth, I’m Kissing You Goodbye’ (1993), ‘When the Phone Doesn’t Ring, It’ll Be Me’ (1996), and ‘Advanced Sex Tips for Girls’ (2002)
Wrote the play ‘A Girl’s Guide to Chaos’ (1986)

Why she might be annoying:

She ran away from home at age 17 and became a ‘card-carrying hippie.’
She lived in several London communes with her young son.
Both her marriages ended in divorce.
She wrote for the sitcoms ‘Dear John’ and Kate & Allie and said the experience almost drove her to alcoholism.
She regretted that ‘Sex Tips for Girls’ resulted in her being treated as a sex expert instead of a humorist – although after two decades, the sense of regret apparently diminished enough for her to write a sequel.
She noted one of the hazards of being a columnist whose main topic was her own dating life: ‘People know a lot about me – too much.’

Why she might not be annoying:

Her advice in ‘Sex Tips for Girls’ was described as ‘practical and bawdy.’
She adopted several rescue dogs from shelters.
Douglas Adams said she was ‘like P.G. Wodehouse if he wrote about sex.’
She wrote, ‘Everyone in the world seems to think that they are codependent and that they come from dysfunctional families. They call it codependency, I call it the human condition.’
She influenced Candace Bushnell and ‘Sex in the City.’
