Commentator

The Resume

    (July 1979- )
Born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom
    Middle name is Raza
Host of The Mehdi Hasan Show (MSNBC)
Author of 'Ed: The Milibands and the making of a Labour leader'

Why he might be annoying:

He's the fill-in host for Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow.
He was forced to apologize on Twitter for homophobic and anti-abortion comments he made during Islamic religious sermons shortly after starting a gig at CNN.
Included among the comments in question was his using the terms 'cattle,' 'people of no intelligence,' and 'animals' to describe non-Muslims.
His response to Glenn Youngkin’s Gubernatorial victory in Virginia was that it 'proves white ignorance is a powerful weapon.'
He argued that white people are motivated by white supremacy in their resistance to Covid-19 restrictions (and also that they're too stupid to know that they're killing other white people).
Exhibit A: 'Here’s what I find so infuriating about this - Yes, there’s the abject, vile racism of course, but also while Covid-19 disproportionately affects people of color, yes, the majority of the virus’ victims are still White people. So this strain of white supremacy- let’s call it what it is – is literally helping to kill hundreds of thousands of White people. This whole thing is just one more horribly depressing episode in White America’s long history of cutting off its nose to spite its face.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked for Sky News and Al-Jazeera.
He was named one of the 100 most influential Britons on Twitter.
He was included in the annual global list of 'The 500 Most Influential Muslims' in the world ('The Muslim 500').
He wrote a piece emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the Holocaust as a 'uniquely horrific crime against humanity,' and called on British Muslims and the larger Muslim world to take it more seriously.
He has been critical of the human rights situation in Pakistan, expressing disapproval of the country's treatment of religious minorities.
He has made several statements in opposition to the Saudi government, including challenging a statement made by President Trump, in which he claimed that he himself had no financial interests in Saudi Arabia.
He became a naturalized citizen of the US (October 9, 2020) in time to vote in the presidential election.
