    Raised $14 million for cancer research
    Appointed an officer to the Order of Canada (1985)
    Subject of the 2015 documentary 'Hurt'

Why he might be annoying:

    He was divorced.
    He didn't have a high profile like Terry Fox.
    He ran into trouble with the law shortly after his run.
    He pled guilty to 16 charges in Edmonton including assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, writing fraudulent cheques and possession of a stolen vehicle (1996).
    He was charged with impaired driving five times and driving without a license seven times.
    He spiraled into a period of addiction and homelessness in the years following his cross-country run.
    His Order of Canada was revoked as a result of his ongoing legal issues (2009).
    He publicly complained about his Order of Canada honor being revoked, going as far as calling it unethical.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He lost his leg to cancer at the age of 12.
    He was inspired by Terry Fox to complete a cross-Canada marathon for cancer research.
    He was the youngest recipient of the Order of Canada, prior to it being rescinded.
    He initially studied mechanics and aircraft maintenance, prior to his life going into decline.
    He survived a severe beating in a home invasion, that left him brain damaged (2015).
    He lost his father to lung cancer months after he completed his cross-country run.
    He participated in a cross-country run in the United Kingdom weeks after his Journey for Lives marathon ended.
