The Resume

    (1909- )
    (1909– )
    Root for the Montreal Canadiens
Cheered their team to 24 Stanley Cup championships in the 20th century
Attended home games at the Montreal Arena (1909–1918), Jubilee Arena (1918–1920), Mont-Royal Arena (1920–1924), Montreal Forum (1924–1996) and the Bell Center (1996- )

Why they might be annoying:

On March 17, 1955, they responded to a judgement against Maurice Richard by pelting the NHL president and his fiancée with debris — especially after the Detroit Red Wings scored.
If the team doesn’t make the playoffs, they consider it a disappointment.
They are more emotionally attached to the CH logo on the team sweater than to any other symbol.
They watched Patrick Roy let in nine goals during an 11-1 rout by the Detroit Red Wings in what would end up being his final game with the Canadiens.
They have a hated rivalry with Toronto Maple Leafs fans.
If their team wins two games in a row they boast they are on the way to the Stanley Cup, but when they lose two in a row, they want most of their players traded.

Why they might not be annoying:

Unlike fans of the New York Yankees, they do not have massive egos.
Still, while they do not expect to receive every free agent gem, they expect their players to treat the club as more than a bush-league franchise.
Each announcement (goal, penalty, anthem) is made in both official languages (French first).
At the end of each game, a local newspaper columnist announces his ‘three stars.’ Only once did all three of them ever go to the same player (Maurice Richard, March 23, 1944).
They watched their team set an NHL record 10 consecutive overtime playoff victories (1993).
At the end of the Canadiens’ final Forum game, five days before moving into the Centre Molson (later Bell), they reserved their largest ovation for the Rocket. This ovation got him to betray his usual modesty.
They cheered for Patrick Roy when he returned to Montreal as a member of the Colorado Avalanche.
