Why he might be annoying
He retired during the 1997-98 NBA season, only to return two seasons later to play in a handful of games.
He was accused of sexual assault on two separate occasions by two different females.
He won his June mayoral primary with just 32% of the vote, forcing a November runoff election against the incumbent mayor.
His conservative economic viewpoints don't sit well with some of the Democratic Party's traditional working class base.
Why he might not be annoying
He was the first African-American to be elected mayor of Sacramento.
He played basketball for UC-Berkeley, and finished his political science degree from the University during his first NBA retirement.
He was selected to three NBA All-Star teams (1990, 1991, 1994).
He was endorsed by Sacramento's police and fire departments, as well as by some of the city's important business leaders.
