The Resume

    (May 18, 2003-October 12, 2013)
British TV series about a middle-aged female detective dealing with divorce and raising four children while leading an elite squad of homicide detectives
Starred Caroline Quentin as DCI Janine Lewis and Ian Kelsey as DI Richard Mayne
    Ran from 2003-2009

Why Blue Murder might be annoying:

The accents, slang, and police jargon makes it hard for American audiences to understand sometimes.
The DVD collection is technically poorly done, has few extras, and shows episodes out of order.
Only nineteen episodes were produced over seven years.
There was no real pilot, only the opening few minutes of the first episode introducing Quentin's character and there was no type of series finale.
The attempt at ginning up a romantic storyline/sexual tension between Quentin's character and her second in command was ridiculous and quickly dropped.
The supporting cast was very one dimensional; the fat guy, the jerk, the bureaucrat, etc..
The unit's technical support specialist was played at different by three different, young, attractive, black actresses playing three different characters.
    Is England really that violent?

Why Blue Murder might not be annoying:

Known mostly as a comedienne, Caroline Quentin was sensational in a intense, multi-layered role.
Though limited by the usually one dimensional nature of their characters, the supporting cast was fantastic.
Though hardly a family show, the sex, profanity, and violence was kept within reasonable bounds.
There were some moments of considerable hilarity.
There was an ongoing gag about Lewis' problems finding and keeping nannies for her children.
The show portrayed a professional woman as being able to balance a family and a responsible, professional position without being ridiculous or unrealistic about it and indeed making a point to show the difficulties involved in doing so.
