Why Red Dwarf might be annoying:

Norman Lovett left after the second season due to a salary dispute.
The explanation on how the crew was brought back to life at the beginning of the seventh season was so confusing that it blew up several camcorders (according to the storyline).
From the seventh season on, ‘Red Dwarf’ has been considered lackluster compared to the first six seasons.
Rob Grant split from Doug Naylor before the seventh season due to a falling out, thus leaving Naylor to run the series with other writers.
That same season was put on hold for three years due to Craig Charles’s legal problems.
Chris Barrie’s departure during that same season, as well as Chloe Annett’s character development, has also contributed to the show’s declining quality.
The end of season eight ended in a cliffhanger, and no further episodes were made as of yet (2000).
Two pilot episodes that were made in the U.S. (Red Dwarf-USA) failed miserably (1992).

Why Red Dwarf might not be annoying:

It is one of the most popular series during its run.
It still has a strong cult following.
It was able to replace Lovett with Hattie Hayridge as Holly starting the third season without breaking the show’s continuity.
The development of its main characters , as well the outer space setting has given the show more creative flexibility.
Barrie’s ‘Ace Rimmer’ and John-Jule’s ‘Duane Dibbley’ alter ego characters became fan favorites.
It has introduced concepts like time running backwards, mind swapping, parallel universes, pre-determinism theories, time holes, and genetically mutated creatures (man-made or otherwise).
It also introduced the Esperanto language as well as made-up words like ‘smeg.’
On the episode ‘Tikka To Ride,’ they had John F. Kennedy in a police uniform assassinate himself (aka the Man in the Grassy Knoll) just ‘to drive the conspiracy nuts crazy.’
The song ‘Tongue Tied,’ which featured as a choreograph on the episode ‘Parallel Universe,’ became a hit single for Danny John-Jules.
