The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He was chosen by Sam Pollock to be the Canadiens general manager over Scotty Bowman, despite the fact he had no previous experience in hockey.
Pollock's decision to hire him played a major role in Bowman leaving the Canadiens altogether.
He was considered surly and not very friendly towards media personalities.
He angered Canadiens fans when he drafted Doug Wickenheiser instead of Denis Savard with the first overall pick (1980).
He is best remembered for his role in saving the long-term future of the Washington Capitals with a single trade.
He got Ryan Walter and Rick Green in return for Rod Langway, Brian Engblom, Doug Jarvis and Craig Laughlin in that particular trade.
He was fired by the Canadiens 15 months after the trade, and never worked in hockey again afterwards.
He, along with another councillor were caught accepting a cash bribe from an undercover police officer, which derailed his political career.
He pled guilty to municipal corruption charges as a result of the incident (2004).

Why he might not be annoying:

He helped co-found the Laurentian Lanes bowling alleys in Quebec and Ontario.
His successful business background as the Forum president prompted Sam Pollock to choose him as his successor, passing over established hockey names like Bowman and Al MacNeil in the process.
He oversaw a Stanley Cup championship team during his rookie season as a general manager (1978).
He drafted the likes of Guy Carbonneau and Chris Chelios with the Canadiens later round picks.
While he took a lot of heat for the Canadiens-Capitals trade, he publicly stated he still felt he made the best deal for both franchises in the long run.
He served on the Montréal City Council for close to 40 years at the time of his dismissal.
He was married to his wife, Goldie for 60 years until her death.
He was considered a shrewd and savvy negotiatior by his adversaries.
He was viewed as being an ambassador for the city of Montreal, for his longstanding commitment to his community service.
