Basketball Coach

The Resume

    (June 15, 1913-September 14, 2001)
    Born in Madison, Wisconsin
    Died in Addison, Illinois
Head coach of the men's basketball team at Loyola University (1951-75)
    NCAA National Champion (1963)

Why he might be annoying:

    He never played professionally.
His groundbreaking decision to have four African-American players on the roster doesn't get talked about in the same manner as Don Haskins's decision to employ five at Texas Western three years later did.
He was unable to continue the momentum he built in the years following Loyola's championship victory.
He resigned as the head coach of the Loyola men's basketball team 14 games into the 1974-75 season.

Why he might not be annoying:

He employed a fast paced style of play.
He was the first coach of a major NCAA program to employ five African-American players on the court at the same time.
On top of that, his 1963 Loyola team had four African-Americans in the starting lineup, which was unheard of at the time.
He guided Loyola to an NCAA Men's Basketball national championship (1963).
He resigned from coaching to take a job volunteering to help people with intellectual disabilities.
