The Resume

    (November 17, 1877-February 4, 1943)
Born in Bristol, England, United Kingdom
Secretary-treasurer of the Montreal Football Association (1903-11) and the National Hockey Association (1914-17)
Member of the PQFA executive committee (1911-12)
President of the National Hockey League (1917-43)

Why he might be annoying:

He flipped a coin to decide between emigrating to either Canada or the United States.
He helped found the NHA as a way to overthrow Toronto Blueshirts owner Eddie Livingstone.
He opted to fine the Hamilton Tigers for going on strike, rather than negotiate a fair deal.
He called the AHA an outlaw league, yet he allowed James Norris to come in from the league to bail out the Detroit Cougars.
He had bad blood with Chicago Black Hawks owner Frederic McLaughlin, who sought to remove him from office, but was denied.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first president of the National Hockey League.
He oversaw the NHL during the Original Six era.
He was one of the first league heads in professional sports to allow minorities to play in his league.
He said pro hockey didn't judge against the colored man, which was in contrast to the segregation that ran rampant in baseball at that time.
He successfully convinced the NHL's Board of Governors to present an award to the league's top rookie, which he purchased himself.
Following his death, the NHL officially named their Rookie of the Year Award in his honor.
Since he was a staunch advocate for player development, the American Hockey League (NHL's top development league) named their league championship in his honor.
