The Resume

    (February 12, 1945-January 5, 1975)
    Born in Monroe, Louisiana
    Raised in Compton, California
Pitcher for the Houston Astros (1966-74)
    Career record was 104-92
Recorded 1,283 career strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA
Died from carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 29

Why he might be annoying:

He struggled with control issues early in his career.
He was short tempered, which gave off the speculation he always pitched his best when he was mad.
He was fined $300 by his manager, Leo Durocher, after he called the latter an uncomplimentary name.
He left his car running in his garage with the door closed, and was found slumped over in the driver's seat hours later.
To make matters worse, the carbon monoxide fumes went into the house, killing his five year old son, and severely incapacitating his wife and daughter.
While his death was ruled accidental by the coroner, others believe he actually committed suicide.

Why he might not be annoying:

He recorded the first no-hitter in both a domed stadium and on artificial turf (June 18, 1967).
He set the Astros franchise record (since broken) for strikeouts in a single game.
He recorded his second career no-hitter one day after Jim Maloney pitched one against the Astros (May 1, 1969).
He pitched a two-hit shutout in his final major league game.
He was posthumously honored by the Astros when his jersey #40 was retired by the team.
