Why he might be annoying:

His most famous novel, 'Watership Down,' is about talking rabbits.
He shocked many of his fans by saying: 'I'm not a fluffy bunny sort of person at all - if I saw a rabbit in my garden, I'd shoot it.'
24 years after the book was published, he wrote a very weak sequel.
His official biography lists some of his interests as folk singing and 'shove-ha'penny' (whatever that is).

Why he might not be annoying:

He lists one of his interests as 'beer.'
He served in both the European and Pacific theaters of World War II.
He never wrote anything until he was in his forties, then suddenly hit it big with 'Watership Down.'
The book is a sophisticated and epic adventure story.
It was a huge critical and commercial success.
Even though he's not a 'fluffy bunny sort of person,' he was president of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (1980-1982).
Stephen King is a huge fan.
