The Resume

    (December 10, 1928-June 4, 2007)
Born in New York City, New York
Daughter of Ian Douglas Campbell, 11th Duke of Argyll, and Janet Aitken
Granddaughter of press baron Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook
Third wife of Norman Mailer (1962-63)
Foreign correspondent for the Evening Standard

Why she might be annoying:

She got a job as a journalist at a newspaper owned by her grandfather.
She hated her stepmother, Margaret Campbell, so much that she joined her father in breaking into Margaret’s house and stealing four years’ worth of diaries to use in his divorce proceedings (1959).
When Gore Vidal asked her why she married Mailer, she reportedly replied, ‘Because I never slept with a Jew before.’
She said about her fights with Mailer, ‘We could empty a room quicker than any couple in New York. We would arrive at a party, and even the hosts would put on their hats and coats and leave.’
Presidential speechwriter James Humes claimed that she slept with John F. Kennedy, Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro within a single year.
She was also rumored to have conducted affairs with ‘Time’ publisher Henry Luce, James Bond creator Ian Fleming, and Winston Churchill’s son Randolph.
During her second marriage, to John Sergeant Cram III, a great-grandson of railroad tycoon Jay Gould, she gave birth to a daughter, Cusi; she later admitted that Cusi’s father was actually the Bolivian ambassador to the UN.

Why she might not be annoying:

Mailer once dangled her from a second-story window.
After their divorce, Mailer portrayed her in an extremely unflattering light in his novel ‘An American Dream,’ which she called ‘the hate book of all time.’
Cusi defended her from two-thirds of Humes’ accusations, saying that Campbell never even met Castro and her relationship with Khrushchev consisted entirely of interviewing him.
Cusi’s explanation of her appeal: ‘Powerful men were interested in her because she was intelligent.’
She was a frequent volunteer at the homeless shelter run by St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village.
