Politician

The Resume

    (April 10, 1950- )
    Born in Morgantown, West Virginia
    Middle name is Reeves
    President/CEO of Greer Industries
Republican nominee for the Senate in West Virginia (1984, 2006, 2010, and 2012)

Why he might be annoying:

He keeps claiming that he isn't a career politician (if he'd won any of his races, he would have been).
He somehow kept managing to lose all of his races despite running as the Republican in a solid Red state each time.
He campaigned with Ted Nugent at his final rally in 2010 and, two years later, defended him for saying he'd be 'dead or in jail' if President Obama was re-elected.
When he was asked about his business experience, he answered: 'I made my money the old fashioned way: I inherited it. And I think that's a great thing to do' (all of his political campaigns were self-financed).
He said of smoking bans: 'I have to put a huge sticker on my buildings to say this is a smoke-free environment, okay? Remember Hitler used to put the Star of David on everybody’s lapel, remember that? Same thing.' (April 2012). When the comments sparked blowback, he doubled down, saying: 'I am not going to be intimidated by a bunch of bullshit. I'm not apologizing to anybody or any organization.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He opposed Robert Byrd.
Ronald Reagan endorsed him when he ran in for the Senate in 1984.
His closest race was in 2010 against Joe Manchin, who had to run to his Right to win the race - and later to fend him off and win reelection.
He designed the golf course at the Pikewood National Golf Club in Morgantown.
Golf Digest rated it a Best New Private course, because of the 'dogleg par 5 around the rim of a deep gulch, the sort of audacity one would expect from amateur architects.'
