The Resume

    (April 19, 1949- )
    Born in Lakeland, Florida
TV journalist and reporter for ABC
Anchor of ABC's World News Tonight and Nightline (1988-99)
Hosted 'Day One' on ABC with Diane Sawyer (no relation)
    Anchor for NBC News (1999-2005)

Why he might be annoying:

He alleged in an expose that Dionne Warwick had numerous financial improprieties with her Foundation for AIDS research (1993).
Warwick claimed that his report was racially motivated and threatened to sue ABC News for defamation, although a suit was never filed.
After leaving ABC over a contract dispute, his main function at NBC was substituting for Brian Williams.
He left NBC to start his own production company and since then hasn't maintained the same kind of visibility as before (possibly by his own wish).

Why he might not be annoying:

He has received several Emmy Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards.
He filed the first in-depth network report on the 1996 Mount Everest disaster.
He did history's first live television report from a battlefield during the First Gulf War.
He won a prestigious Investigative Reporters and Editors national television award for his Dionne Warwick expose in 1993.
He portrayed himself as the moderator in the live Debate episode of The West Wing.
The episode drew over 9 million viewers and 78 percent of respondents polled by Zogby thought he did an 'excellent' or 'good' job.
He survived a helicopter crash while filming a documentary in Tanzania, in which he suffered a serious knee injury before hiking miles with other survivors to safety (2007).
